Dr Shane Gordon
President

Dr Shane GordonDr Shane Gordon graduated from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa in 1987 winning the Julius Stas Medal for Oral Pathology and The South African Prosthodontic Society Medal for Crown and Bridgework.

He spent the two years in the South African Defence Force as a Dental Officer. On leaving the Defence Force he joined a Private Restorative Dental Practice in Cape Town, South Africa and remained with the Practice till 1991.

He moved to the UK in April 1991 and runs his own private practice, The St Peters Dental Practice, in Broadstairs, Kent where he practices aesthetic, restorative and implant dentistry.

Dr Gordon has been an Executive Council Member of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry for ten years during which time he has held the offices of Secretary and Treasurer.

He is an active member of the Association of Dental Implantology and The International College of Oral Implantologists. He constantly undergoes postgraduate education by attending courses in the USA, UK and Europe to keep up to date with new techniques enabling him to remain at the forefront of developments in the dental field. He lectures nationally on a wide range of dental treatment subjects.

Mr Anthony Laurie
President Elect

Mr Anthony Laurie Anthony Laurie is Eastman Trained and the founder of DENTS - Dental Education Nurtured Through Science - an organisation dedicated to the pursuit of professional status for dental technologists. Highly qualified with over twenty eight years in dental technology, he has lectured extensively, both internationally and in the U.K. and is the author of numerous publications.

He is one of only three people in the U.K. who have been conferred Fellowship of the City and Guilds for Dentistry and is also Fellow of the British Institute of Dental and Surgical Technicians. He is current president of the (HTSC) Harley Technicians Study Club and is on the executive board of (BAAD) the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry, and is also on the editorial board of (R&AP) Restorative and Aesthetic Practice.

After many years working in Wimpole Street, Anthony can now be found at his new State of the Art Dental Technology centre - 'Dental Excellence'. The centre incorporates his specialist restorative laboratory together with the DENTS Training Facility which specialises in continuing postgraduate education for both clinicians and technicians.

Dr Nigel Saynor
Immediate Past President

Dr Nigel Saynor Nigel Saynor qualified with distinction, from Manchester University in 1980. He then took the post of house officer at M/cr Dental Hospital and M/cr Royal Infirmary, attached to the Dept. of Oral Surgery. In 1983 he became a partner in a dental practice in Bramhall Cheshire. In 1986 he became sole practitioner, in the practice, embarking on a series of studies in restorative dentistry and surgical dentistry in the USA and Europe.

Nigel Saynor now has a highly successful private referral practice in south Manchester. Since 1994 he has taught dental colleagues, as a mentor, conducting intensive 1-1 training in all aspects of prosthodontic and surgical dentistry. Due to his outstanding results in the clinical success and aesthetic outcome of his implant cases he was approached in 1996 by Implant companies and colleagues to start teaching/lecturing in the UK, Europe and the USA.

He is an active member of the American Academy of Osseointegration, immediate past president of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry, a member of the Association of Dental Implantology, and is the current chairman and secretary of the South Manchester / Stockport branch of the BDA. He is also a member of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners of the Royal College of Surgeons.

Dr Koray Feran
Treasurer

Dr Koray Feran Koray qualified in 1989 from Guy's Dental Hospital, winning the Final Year Prize and the S.J. Kaye prize in Oral Medicine and Pathology. He remained at Guy's for two separate House Surgeon appointments in Prosthetic Dentistry and then Oral and Maxillofacial surgery for one year and then went into general practice in North London.

Between 1991 and 1993 he completed the Master of Science degree in Periodontology from Guy's Hospital and at the end of 1993 passed examinations for the restorative dentistry Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

He has since been in practice dedicated to quality dental care, having a special interest in multi-disciplinary cases that require detailed planning and co-ordination of several specialist branches of dentistry. Between 1996 and 1999 he provided surgical services in periodontics and implant dentistry to three prestigious practices in the Knightsbridge and South Kensington areas, prior to establishing his own practice near Baker Street in the West End of London where he remained from 1997 till 2005. He has recently established The London Centre for Implant ad Aesthetic Dentistry on the First Floor of 57A Wimpole Street together with BAAD colleague Dr David Klaff.

Koray is committed to extensive ongoing postgraduate education in several countries with world leaders in several fields of dentistry and dental technology. He serves on the executive committee of The British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry as treasurer and has been Implant and Periodontics section editor in Restorative and Aesthetic Practice (now Implant and Aesthetic Dentistry). He is a full member of The British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and an active member of the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI) UK being the current honorary committee member as editor for the ADI newsletter. He is a member of The European Association of Osseointegration and the British Society of Periodontology and Affiliate member of the Academy of Osseointegration.

Koray currently accepts referrals from dental practitioner colleagues for patients requiring detailed multidisciplinary restorative dental work. He also lectures both nationally and internationally on the subjects of restorative and implant dentistry and the advanced training of dental nurses for implant practices. He co-presents a comprehensive one year course in implant dentistry for dental colleagues and their teams with Dr Phil Bennett, president elect of the ADI and BAAD member.

Dr David Winkler
Secretary

Dr David Winkler David Winkler received his DDS from The Royal Dental College of Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1983 after having worked as a dental technician for 3 years. He is the founding president of the Scandinavian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, past-president of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, and a founding member of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry. He is a member of the International College of Prosthodontists and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. He sits on the editorial or advisory board of the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, and Practical Procedures and Aesthetic Dentistry. He has been involved in implants since completing the Branemark training in 1987. He had a private practice in the Denmark from 1983 - 2001, and has been working with Tidu Mankoo in Windsor since 1998. He was an evaluator for Clinical Research Associates in the US, and is a member of the editorial team of the Reality Research Group. He lectures internationally on general practice treatment modalities and materials.

Mr John Hubbard
Past President

Mr John Hubbard During 1975 he initiated his own business John Hubbard Dental Studios, a technology centre specialising in crown and bridge and aesthetic dentistry. He began his teaching career in the early 1970s and in 1985 founded John Hubbard International Dental Seminars Postgraduate Learning Centre which was the first privately owned centre of its kind to be established in the United Kingdom.

John has presented lectures and hands-on courses in ceramic technology at major dental meetings and leading universities throughout Europe, North America, Canada and Australia. During the late 1970s he collaborated with Dr John McLean OBE, MDS, DSc, in the preparation of The Science and Art of Dental Ceramics (Vol I and II), published by the Quintessence Publishing Company, Germany, and has since written many scientific articles pertinent to aesthetic dentistry.

He is the Editor in Chief of Quintessence Journal of Dental Technology UK, a peer reviewed journal launched in October 2003. John is a founding member and past Clinic Co-ordinator of the International Society for Dental Ceramics (ISDC), and Past President of The British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (BAAD Ltd). John’s technology centre (John Hubbard Dental Studios) is located in Lymm, Cheshire.

Dr Gareth Jenkins
Past President

Dr Gareth Jenkins Gareth Jenkins qualified in 1970 from Cardiff and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 1974 and MScD in 1979.

He is a specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics and runs a private practice in Cardiff. He is the author of a textbook 'Precision Attachments --The Missing Link in Restorative Dentistry' published by Quintessence, and has published numerous articles on Restorative Dentistry and Implants.

He is a Fellow and Diplomat of the International Congress of Implantologists and is on the editorial board of the international journal 'Implant Dentistry'. He is also on the editorial board of the 'Independent Dental Journal'.

He is a past President of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and past President of the Association of Dental Implantology.

Dr Tidu Mankoo
Scientific Chairman & Past President

Dr Tidu Mankoo Dr Tidu Mankoo qualified with a BDS from the University of Bristol in 1981 and has a renowned Private & Referral Practice in Windsor, Berkshire, treating Implant, Restorative and Aesthetic cases, particularly complex cases. He has built a reputation for exceptional dentistry and carries out both the surgical and prosthetic aspects of his cases. He is an active member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, the International Society of Dental Ceramics, the Association of Dental Implantology (UK), the European Association of Osseointegration (EAO), Fellow of the International College of Dentists (FICD), and a fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

He is a founder and Past President of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and on the Editorial Board of Aesthetic & Implant Dentistry. He is a respected teacher with numerous publications, a sought-after speaker particularly in the field of Dental Implants, Aesthetic Dentistry and management of complex cases. He lectures and gives courses regularly all over the world and continues to publish on a regular basis.

Dr David Klaff
Past President

Dr David Klaff A Past-President and Founding Member of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (BAAD), David Klaff gained his degree at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, in 1967.

After serving in the armed forces he came to London where he has maintained a private office, as a specialist in Prosthodontic Dentistry and limited to restorative and prosthodontic dentistry.

He is a member of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, a member of The European Academy of Osseointegration and Association of Dental Implantology, an Active Member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry as well as the American Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry. He is on the editorial board of Aesthetic and Implant Dentistry. He is associate Professor in Aesthetics at the University of Catalonia, Barcelona.

He lectures extensively in the United Kingdom as well as Europe, the United States and Asia on restorative and prosthodontic topics with a special interest in implantology, occlusion and adhesive dentistry. He presents on average a total of 50-60 hours of accredited lectures each year, regularly conducting hands-on presentations and courses in both direct and indirect composite restorations. He has published articles on aesthetics and adhesive dentistry. He is married, Sharon, with two children, Lara and Jonathan.

Executive Administrator

Penny Sykes

Penny Sykes Penny graduated from Bournemouth in 1984 with an HND in Hotel, Catering & Institutional Management. After several years of experience in hotel management, she founded The Conference Shop Limited in 1990, specialising in venue finding and event management. The Company has been involved with the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry since its inaugural meeting in 1995. Whist The Conference Shop still operates in its own right, the Company continues to manage the Annual Scientific Meeting on behalf of the Academy and Penny now holds the post of Executive Administrator.
